Welcome
The West Somerset Disability Association supports all disabled people, whether visually and hearing impaired, physically limited or with any other type of disability, together with their carers, friends and families. We meet on the last Monday of each month at the Seahorse Centre, Minehead. Everyone is most warmly welcome!
We are involved in many types of leisure activity including outings. This involves providing appropriate transport - scooters and buggies where possible. We also teach computer skills on our own computers, which have been specially adaptated with screen (speech) readers, screen magnification, voice recognition software and a Braille embosser; this enables members to access the Internet, e-mail, bank accounts, online shopping and many other possibilities.
In 2005 the group was awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and four of the members went to Buckingham Palace to a garden party and met the Queen. We now display the logo of the Crown at the top of our website and on our letterhead.
The horse is displayed in recognition of our Patron, Philip Hobbs, the locally based, national racehorse trainer.
The Association produces a monthly Newsletter informing members of future events and any relevant information. Well over 100 of the monthly Newsletter are now e-mailed and posted to members and service suppliers. They are also posted here on the website now.
